Building confidence in children
In 2013, I relocated from Johannesburg to Cape Town with my children, Judith (2 years at the time) and Patrick (5 months at the time). They had never been to crèche so I was worried about taking them to just any crèche, and my worries came to pass when I took them to a crèche where they fell sick all the time, came home soo irritated and they always felt sad when going to school in the morning. I chatted to my neighbour and she told me about Fuzzy’s daycare, where her son was. I went to visit Fuzzy’s daycare in 2014, and by the end of the tour, I couldn’t wait to bring my children to school. I didn’t wait for the month to end. I moved my children to Fuzzys daycare immediately. The main things that caught my attention during the visit were: -the Principal, Fazlin is very passionate and it shows in everything she does, for example how she talks to the children and how the children relate to her. -the teachers are very friendly and they take care of the children with love. -the arrangement of the pre-Grade R class is carefully thought out. -the location of the daycare is very strategic and safe. -the cleanliness of the place is amazing. - the children are fed with a healthy and delicious meal every day. - the fees are affordable for the value that is offered. The above observations were all just from the day of the tour. When my children started at the school, they confirmed all of the above observations and more. Every day, Judith and Patrick just couldn’t wait to go to school. In the car, they were always talking about their Principal and their teachers. From the conversations and observations during the 5 years (Patrick) and 4 years (Judith) of their stay at Fuzzy’s daycare, these are the highlights that I will never forget and will always be grateful for: - the daycare was very clean each time I went there to drop and pick the kids. The kids always came home very clean. - Judith and Patrick became very happy children, and constant doctor visits became a thing of the past. - their confidence developed and to this day, I still see this in everything they do. There is no day I got a bad story from the children in the 5 years. Everything they reported about was positive and uplifting. - they learnt basic Pre-Grade R concepts and skills, and they were very well prepared for Grade R. - their life skills were very well developed. I started seeing it at home through the order and cleanliness in their rooms and how they picked after themselves after playtime. - Patrick couldn’t stop talking about the food they were eating at school and he told me to ask their Principal for the recipe so that I could make for him the food at home. -the school made an effort to expose the children to games and activities that stimulated their imagination. I still have the archives of the various pictures and projects that they did. - the fees were affordable for the value that I was getting. To this day, the children still talk about their time at Fuzzy’s daycare, and they still remember their Principal, teachers and friends that they made. It was a great pleasure to see my children get the nurturing that prepared them very well for life and time in the big school. I don’t know how Fazlin and her staff do it, especially building confidence in the children. All I can say is thank you very much and please keep it up!
